Erosion Control Permitting

Building a house in Dane County?

If the driveway is longer than 125 feet, the project will likely require a Dane County Erosion Control permit.

Additionally, if disturbing one acre of land or more to construct the driveway, home, septic, walkways, lawn, etc., the Dane County erosion control permit must include all areas of disturbance. Disturbance of over one acre requires an additional permit through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR). To start construction, these permits must be applied for and approved by the municipal agencies.

As part of the erosion control permitting process, site civil engineering plans depicting existing and proposed conditions and topography are required. In addition to plans, calculations for culvert sizing, shear stress calculations for ditches to determine erosion control measures, soil loss equation worksheets, construction cost estimates and scheduling are all required to gain approvals.
